Experience the spontaneity of Watercolor while learning how to control paint and water in a fun, informative class. Learn about achieving saturated colors and values, capturing light through glazing, painting negative space, using texture, and more. Each step is demonstrated with lots of individual instruction. Good drawing skills are recommended. Instructor is an elected member of the Salmagundi Club and Connecticut Watercolor Society, has won many regional and national awards and has been successfully teaching this medium for many years.

Mixed Media (“Mix it Up!”) Workshop Instructor: Ishita Bandyo

Buttons and Bows by Ishita Bandyo
This workshop will introduce students into the new and exciting field of Mixed Media painting where anything and everything goes! Learn how to incorporate found materials, including paper as well as other ephemera, into good compositional paintings. Learn how to use different gels and mediums to create textural paintings that include collage elements, too. Both additive as well as resist methods will be covered for creating surface texture. Mono-printing and custom collage paper-making techniques will be covered in this workshop. Students will learn from hands on demonstrations and will complete projects related to each concept. Bring your own lunch.

Abstraction: Conceptual Paintings Workshop Instructor: Ishita Bandyo

Explore the principles behind painting in abstract, which will open up a whole new vista for you to create art from a different standpoint. You will learn how to use the principles of design and explore colors to make non-representational paintings. This workshop will cover the methods and concepts of artists like Pollock, Kandinsky, et al. You will leave with a sense that abstract art is not apart from the “mainstream” painting practice but an integral part of it. Acrylic and acrylic gels will be used in this course to create various textural effects.
Bring your own lunch.

Summer Art Camp Instructor: Carole Johnson

Artist Carole Johnson paints with students in her summer art camp
Encourage creativity in your child using line, color, form and texture, working with watercolor and acrylic paints. Instructor will be introducing the creation of “custom” stamps and teaching a unique incising technique. Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in the Student Show at Maple & Main Gallery in September! Register early for one or both sessions; class size is limited.

Watercolor Pencil Workshop Instructor: Dan Nichols

Explore a different approach to watercolor by learning the medium of water-soluble colored Pencils. Watercolor pencils can be used as a sketch on dry paper or added to washes. Well-versed in many media, instructor has been successfully painting in watercolor for decades and discovered the versatility of Watercolor Pencils along the way. In this workshop, we will start with the water-soluble pencils, use unexpected and fun techniques, and with a little water, a painting will emerge! Bring your own lunch.

Oil Demonstration with Elizabeth Sennett
Equally adept at painting in oil and watercolor, this East Hampton artist has been painting flower gardens, subjects for still life, people she knows, and the Connecticut landscape for forty years. One of the founders of the East Hampton Art Association, she continues to be active in it and has taught painting for over three decades in Middletown and East Hampton. She loves to share her many painting tips and techniques with others and will do so while she paints in oil for us. All are welcome; no pre-registration necessary.
