Prelude to Summer
Prelude to Summer, the next exhibit opening at Maple and Main Gallery will feature a wide range of works by 37 artists as well as a special show of paintings of rocks. The opening for this show, the largest the gallery has undertaken in its almost three years, will be Friday, May 17 from 5 to 8 pm when many of the artists will be on hand and wine and light food will be served along with a May wine punch.
Over 100 unframed works will be offered as well. These, like all the work at Maple and Main, are originals but because they are unframed, their prices are lower and they also allow buyers to choose their own framing. In the small gallery, are dozens of small paintings, also at especially affordable prices, and good for wedding presents or other special gifts.
The Joslow Gallery on the lower floor of the gallery, will be devoted to paintings that render rocks - traditionally a favorite subject matter for artists.
The show runs through mid-July.
Clothesline Sale
Yellow Fields by Aleta Gudelski is one of dozens of unframed,original
art being offered during the clothesline sale on May 25.
Each Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, Chester has a town-wide tag sale when bargains can be found on scores of lawns and in garages.
Maple and Main Gallery is participating and also offering bargains but these are lovely, original unframed paintings which will be hung with clothespins to lines strung between the porch columns.
More unframed art will be on display inside the gallery.
This the second year we’ve featured a clothesline sale of art and it’s an effective way to see a lot of paintings and make comparisons.
Our unframed art is offered at very reasonable prices and you get to choose your own frame which is often an advantage.
The clothesline sale is open Saturday, May 25 from 8 am to 6 p.m. and continues inside the gallery on Sunday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Joslow Gallery
Grayville Falls Rockery by Barbara Hageman will be among many
rock paintings in the Joslow Gallery Prelude to Summer show
The lower gallery at Maple and Main is now formally called the Joslow Gallery, named after the late David aand Judy Joslow. David Joslow bought and renovated the historical building where our gallery is located in 1977 and his wife, Judy opened the town's first gallery downstairs. There will be a themed exhibit by Maple and Main artists in the Joslow Gallery during each show. The theme for the coming show is Rocks.
